Driver's education in Hawaii

The new law in Hawaii, requires all people 18 years old or younger to show proof they have completed a Hawaii driver's education course, and also behind the wheel driver training certified by the Director of Transportation before receiving a driving license in Hawaii.

A certificate of Hawaii driver's education completion will be granted to those who have finished all that is mandatory for a driver's education course in Hawaii such as:

  • Thirty hours of classroom instruction.
  • Six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction; or a simulator course and two hours of behind-the-wheel driving instruction.
